New York City Trip 2012: Mary Poppins

posted Feb 6, 2012, 10:07 AM by Gregg Charest   [ updated Oct 23, 2012, 4:26 AM by Ronald Runner ]

On Wednesday, April 25, 2012, the Music Department will travel to New York City to attend a performance of “MARY POPPINS” at the New Amsterdam Theatre.  Tickets for this performance are available on a first come, first served basis, and cost $155.00 each.  This includes bus transportation/driver tip to and from New York, and tickets in the front mezzanine level (great seats!!!).  Note: this price does NOT include any meals, or souvenirs.

To secure your place on the trip, a deposit of $75 is due on or before FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2012.  You are welcome to pay for the entire trip at once (it certainly makes life easier for us), and may also choose to apply your band/chorus fundraiser money towards this trip.  An up to date list of account balances will be posted on the band and chorus websites shortly.  Please send your deposit with students, or mail to: Mr. Gregg Charest, 930 Nooseneck Hill Road, West Greenwich, RI 02817

We are in need of 1 chaperone for every 5 students who attend this trip, so all parents are certainly welcome (and must fill out and pass the district’s background check).  Chaperones should also send a $75.00 deposit at this time.

2012 Chorus Pie Sale

posted Oct 7, 2011, 9:03 AM by Gregg Charest   [ updated Sep 19, 2012, 7:40 AM by Ronald Runner ]

The Music Program's annual Pie fundraiser begins  October 5 and runs through Monday, October 22.  Students will receive fundraising forms in class, soon there will be a form attached below for your convenience.

How it works:
Students sell pies, which come frozen but ready to bake.  The pies are standard 14" frozen pies like you might but at any grocery store, and we make quite a bit more money by running this fundraiser ourselves, rather than having another company provide us with fancy glossy photos/order forms.

Our advertising pitch usually revolves around the upcoming holidays (pies will be delivered THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15 in time for Thanksgiving) and the idea that you don't have any baking to do for dessert - just pop one of these pies in the oven, and voila!  The pies are done!

Where does the money go?
$5 from the sale of each pie goes into a chorus account that POPS (Parents Of Performing Students) maintains for each student.  These funds are available for use on any music program field trip, and come in especially helpful for large trips like last year's Sr. High chorus trip to Orlando, Fl.  Also, Junior High students will be eligible to attend the Music Program's annual day trip to New York City, where we will see a broadway show.  Any extra profit goes into the POPS Chaperone account.

Who to sell to:
We do not advise door to door selling to people you are not familiar with, but prefer that you sell to people that you know well, like your friends, families, neighbors, or for parents to bring the order forms to work.  Teachers, believe it or not, are often surprised that students don't ask them to purchase our delicious pies, so don't be shy about asking (but please be polite, and try to do business before or after class so as not to disrupt any lessons).
